IAPS U11 Rounders Competition 1st Round versus Ashdell
Monday 11th May 2009
Player of the match Nancy Smith
The U11 girls were well drilled and prepared to play hard to win. After winning the toss they opted to field first and gave a superb demonstration of tight clever fielding, ensuring they stopped Ashdell from scoring but also saw the chances to get the runners out by stumping posts. Ashdell were all out for 2 rounders after a number of great catches taken in the deep, fast pick ups and throws from bowler and back stop to 1st post and very quick cover on 2nd post.
Going into bat the girls piled on the pressure and forced the errors from Ashdell and took rounders from poor hits but great running between the posts. Great directional hitting into obvious spaces lead to some easy rounders being taken but the determination to score from every ball meant that the girls declared on 19 rounders with only 2 players out.
The 2nd innings was similar but a lack of concentration allowed Ashdell to sneak in a full rounder. They were all out eventually for 2.5 rounders. Despite having won the match the girls went into bat again and Ashdell picked up their fielding which limited the scoring rate of the SA girls. They took the risks but they didn’t always pay off. Great sportsmanship from the girls saw Ashdell get them all out for 17.
An excellent performance from all team members.
