Last night the boarders were delighted to welcome Mrs Parsons, the Head of Sixth Form at Birkdale School.

She delivered a fascinating presentation on the withdrawal from Dunkirk in 1940 and questioned whether this was a victory or a defeat. Then it was over to the Year 6 and 7 boys and girls who sifted through the evidence like real detectives and made their own conclusions.

This was a hugely valuable exercise as Mrs Parsons forced the children to interprete the evidence and evaluate its trustworthyness. The children had to make their own suggestions and argue their point of view. She really got the children thinking! Wonderful stuff...... boarding builds brains at S. Anselm's!
Parents and day children are always welcome to attend these History Society meetings.
