U12 XI v Abbotsholme Won 3-1

This was a great game with the confident Year 4 pupils united together for the first time. S. Anselm’s took control from the kick off and made several early breaks, which sadly were pushed wide of the goal by Freddie H. Then disaster struck as goal keeper, Hugo rushed an attack a long way clear of his goal and fell injured, fortunately superb defending cleared the attack. Heroically John W stepped in to goal keep and was nothing short of superb, making some splendid saves during the rest of the game.
Eventually the U12’s were rewarded with a goal from Will A, the team captain, who had effectively dominated play in the opposition half. Great defensive and midfield work was supplied by Charlie H, who was man of the match, for great decisions in defence and distributing great ball from the midfield.
Abbotsholme got a lucky break, which allowed them a sweet shot on goal which put us in the unfortunate position of drawing 1-1 with only 5 minutes left on the clock. S.Anselm’s were able to lift their game to respond to the pressure and began to play their best football. A massive throw down the line from Edward H allowed Elliot to break free, only to brought down in the penalty box, leaving him with a penalty which he neatly slotted to the right of the keeper. In the closing seconds Freddie H, finally managed to find the goal adding to our lead and leaving victory firmly in our hands.
Well done Chaps!
