DAY 2: S. Anselm's Ski Club had an amazing day's skiing at Les Deux Alpes today. The sun was strong and the skies azure. Temperatures were pleasantly high and our skiers spent the day on the nursery slopes close to our hotel. Despite a slow start, the tenacity of our pupils showed through. Prizewinners for the most improved skiers today were Tom C and Elliot T. Joe Pro awards go to Tom D, Henry L and Henry T. Our first Ski nickname was awarded to Tallulah V whose initials, TGV, coincide with something else in France that travels incredibly quickly on parallel tracks. Mwela M, Lexi B-D, Arthur L, Grace T and Adam S made real progress with their skiing all day, despite their battles with the drag lifts. Angus E, James C, Tom B, Ella H, Livi B-D and George L did brilliantly, and the drag lift was rather kinder to them.
Our hotel is proving to have been a good choice for us. The food is healthy, tasty and plentiful. There are only two schools staying here and we could not have wished to have a better school to share it with than the school from Wrexham we are staying here with. This evening's entertainment was a treasure hunt around Les Deux Alpes, which the pupils loved. It was won by the girls: Lexi, Livi, Grace,Tallulah and Ella. A good time was had by all and we have learned a lot about the resort.
It was a tired but successful group that went up to bed early to prepare for their skiing tomorrow. Snow conditions are good and improving, so tomorrow's skiing should be even better than today's. The more advanced skiers will be heading further up the mountain in the morning with the beginners staying on the nursery slopes to consolidate their skills before heading up the mountain later in the week.
DAY 1:
We started our winter sports holiday early this morning as our coach executed a perfect figure of eight on the sheet ice covering the school car park. The somersault the coach threatened to do into Hargreaves Hall was only prevented by Mr Tadman's rucsack, which provided the traction that finally brought it to a halt. Greater love hath no teacher than to lay down his packed lunch for the school ski trip.
Many thanks to the parents who gritted the car park so that we could get the coach out. Once we were back onto the Queen' s highway, we made rapid progress to Birmingham Airport. All day, the pupils have been a credit to themselves and to the school.
They had their skis fitted after dinner and then had an early night. All is set for an early start in the morning on the slopes which are in peak condition after this week's snowfall.
Further news tomorrow when we can report on the progress of the group on the snow.
