S. Anselm's School

School House

A real home from home, School House is set in the centre of the main school building and thus benefits from fabulous views across Bakewell and is close to all the school’s facilities. Around fifty boys are looked after by Mr Mace, the Housemaster and his wife Alice as well as a large number of highly dedicated tutors, nurses and matrons. Pupils come from all over the country to board here but many live within ten miles of the school. Our youngest boarders are around eight years old and the older boys are thirteen so the needs of the different age groups are carefully monitored.

Each evening the pupils play board games, read books, play parlour games and on specific evenings they can watch television. Mr Mace reads to the younger children and any pupils who need additional learning support receive attention too. At weekends the boys go sailing, paintballing, cycling, raft building, climbing or go to the cinema, theatre and much else. They are also able to use the extensive on site facilities. School House is a friendly and calm house where the boys feel very well cared for and are able to relax and settle after the school day but it is also a vibrant house where the boys are kept busy and have a huge number of opportunities.

The pupils are frequently invited into the Housemaster's home during the evening or to play in the garden during the summer months. Mr Mace is in regular contact with parents too and is always willing to chat about any issues great or small. Similarly, the boys know that they can approach any member of the House staff and they will be very willing to offer a sympathetic ear.

School House is exceptional and the level of pastoral care the young boys recieve at S. Anselm's is of the very best. Great friendships are forged within the house and the community is proud of the fantastic atmosphere that is engendered. This really is a very vibrant and warm house which is the key to the success  of boys’ boarding over the years.
