Unfortunately the weather took its toll this week with all the home rounders and cricket fixtures having to be cancelled due to the very wet conditions.
Two away cricket matches did take place away at Wellow House , with both the Under 11A and Under 9 teams recording excellent victories. The Under 11A team did well to restrict a strong Wellow team to 110 with Elliot W taking 4 wickets, Freddie H two and Jack H two. In the run chase Hugo R 35 not out, Jack M-M 27 and Jack H led the way and the target was reached with the loss of only 3 wickets to record a 7 wicket win. The Under 9 team which contained many players who were experiencing for the first time match conditions did well to reach a total of 262 in their allotted 20 overs with George T, Harvey W & Dominic H all hitting boundaries the highlight of which was George T’s six. Everyone bowled and performed well but the star was Monty H who took three wickets, other wicket takers were Tom D one and George G two, there were also three run outs from some excellent fielding by Jonah G., Luke S, Bertie S and Lewis S. This resticted Wellow to a total of 247 and a victory by 15 runs recorded , well done.
On Saturday there were block fixtures in both rounders and cricket against Ranby House and Derby Grammar School respectively. Against strong Ranby teams two wins and four losses were recorded in some very close competitive rounders matches. The Under 13A team lost by the smallest of margins 13 to 12 ½ , in a match that could have gone either way with Lucy Edwards being player of the match. The Under 12A team continued their excellent season so far winning 10 to 8 with a much improved fielding display , Nancy J was player of the match for her accurate fast bowling. The Under 11A team lost narrowly 12 ½ to 9 ½ , but with a tighter fielding display this could have been different, Olivia C was player of the match for good fielding and consistent batting. The Under 10A team lost 15 ½ to 11 ½ with the girls not batting greatly and needing to put in some hard practice this week, the players of the match were Teya S and Jessica R-S. The Under 9 team had their first match of the season and recorded an excellent 11 ½ to 3 victory with consistent performances throughout the team, Clare T was player of the match.

In the three cricket matches played one was won, one drawn and one lost. The 1st XI continued their difficult start to the season , recording a loss. However, there was amuch improved batting display with
Tom B scoring 58 not out, James B 26 and Jordan W 21 and a competitive total of 144 posted in the 25 overs. George M removed one of the Derby openers cheaply but then two very good Derby batsmen compiled a partnership of 133 with some fantastic running between the wickets and by severely dealing with some poor bowling. James B took a consolation wicket towards the end but this was academic, Derby winning by 8 wickets. The 2nd XI continued their good start to the season winning by 62 runs, in the S.Anselm’s innings Ollie N scored 34, Ben D 15 and John B 10. When bowling Digby D bowled well taking 3 wickets , backed up by John B two wickets and Edward H, Ollie N and Ben D one wicket each. The Under11A team could not take the last two Derby wickets to push home their dominance after scoring 195 in their innings with Jack H and Freddie H scoring unbeaten fifties and Elliot W a good contribution of 28. When bowling Jack H took 4 wickets, Freddie H two and John W one but Derby hung on for a draw.
