Weekend Reports

Sunday 16th May

After a blissful Saturday afternoon of games the weekend was in full swing!

This weekend was a very busy and action packed one. We welcomed lots of trial boarders in for the weekend so we had nearly one hundred boys and girls all eager to have a break from the school work and ready to engage in some fun activities. First stop for some of the trial boarders was the trampoline in the Mace's garden...despite the bouncing, Mrs Mace's lemonade was held down!

On Saturday night the boys and girls crashed out in front of a good film......

On Sunday they feasted on a hearty breakfast, had a little time to reflect and write home, then Mr Bell (Housemaster at Shrewsbury) delivered a very witty sermon on the need to be stubborn at times but in a positive way. He brought in a number of his fluffy friends as you can see!

Before Mr Bell arrived, a merry bunch of junior boys and girls had already disappeared off to Oakham School to get involved in the Oakham Sunday event they ran down there. This was a marvellous success and you can see what they engaged in on the following web page: www.oakham.rutland.sch.uk/News/News Summer 10/Oakham Sunday 2010

The Informal Concert was a great success and the boys and girls who performed did superbly well in front of a large audience of friends and family.

Straight after this, a troop of Slieve Mor girls raced off to go climbing with Mr Watt who kindly came in specially to do this. Mr and Mrs Berry had a go too and so did little James! Mr Berry stated that there was some real pride and prowess shown as the girls proved their metal at Windgather Rocks. Mr Franklin also generously took a little bunch off to Trent Bridge where they met the players and came back with autographs and lots of trinkets!

Lunch was a delicious BBQ affair with burgers, sausages and ice cream out on the bottom field in the sunshine. The children larked about without a care in the world, playing football, tennis, cricket and all sorts of fun games. Mrs Northcott even had a go on the boys' sling shot as they fired tennis balls across the pitches!

Soon after this some of the boarders went up to watch the Strollers play and others set up their own game of cricket. Julie (Head of Catering) and Mrs Price took a small group to the Chatsworth Horse Trials where they had a great time. The younger boys went down to Bakewell and had a paddle in the stream, an ice-cream and some fun games of quick cricket. The Transition and First Year boarders even played on the swings!

As soon as we got back a bunch ran off to go swimming with the Northcotts and had a great splash around too.

That evening, the 5th year had a productive hour of revision with Mrs Taylor who helped them with their French oral work. Then, finally, they all flaked out and went off to sleep - dreaming of glorious sunny days like these no doubt! Well done to all who were involved and thanks to the staff who made all this possible. We are all very fortunate indeed!
