Sunday 19th September

Sunday 19th September

Saturday night was, as always, a time to crash out and enjoy some space and time to get away from the demands of the week - the boys and girls were pampered!

Sunday, however, was not typical. Many of the boys were up at Sedbergh (doing very well by all accounts) and we had played around with the Sunday timetable too. We have introduced a formal supper, after letter writing in the evening, to enhance Sundays and we think we succeeded!

After a fabulous breakfast, we welcomed Revd Tony Kaunhoven from Bakewell Church and he delivered a fine service reminding us to cherish our blessings and to share our gifts. We should seek spiritual riches not material ones he said. All this was done in a good humoured way and watching Erin S trying to eat with three foot long knifes and forks was the highlight!

After a lovely lunch everyone went their seperate ways and had a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.

The girls of Slieve Mor were delighted to be joined by several of the Year 8 gentlemen for a terrific outing to the Superbowl (Chesterfield not the NFL one unfortunately)! This was a terrific combination of challenge and fun as the pupils split into three teams to contest for the highest scores. Highlights of the afternoon included Jack MM’s amazing ability to bowl with one leg in plaster and Olivia C’s amazing individual score which left her the top scorer of the day. Fortunately there was enough time to celebrate at the end with a quick McFlurry on the way home.

The Mace family took an eclectic bunch to Ponds Forge (one of our favourite venues)! We all had a fabulous splash about in the whirl pool, the slide and the magnificent wave machine. Afterwards, we munched on too many biscuits and had too much hot choc! Henry T made some of the biggest splashes with Tom W close behind and everyone had a fab time!

The Hiilcrest girls went to Chatsworth House on Sunday afternoon to view the 'Beyond Limits' exhibition of sculptures which were dotted around the garden. Despite the miserable weather, the girls had a great time mimicking the sculptures and trying to work out how the sculptures were reflected in their titles - no mean feat for some of them! An insight was offered by Mrs Prior who kindly accompanied the trip as did Miss Thomson. We were joined at Chatsworth by the Northcotts and a great afternoon was had by all - we didn't get too wet but we did get very muddy!!

Upon our return it was a quick change and time for a swim before letter writing.

Finally after a hearty roast dinner and lots of chat about what everyone had done that day, the new boarders came down to the Northcott’s for cookies and juice and a general chat about how well they had all done during the first two weeks. With only 4 days to go to exeat some could not believe how the time had rushed by.

Well done to everyone involved!
