Sunday 20.3.11

Sunday 20.3.11

As always this was a fun packed Sunday. After the very successful dads v lads football on Saturday, as well as the host of other matches, everyone was ready to crash out and have a well deserved Saturday night treat.

Most of us had a restful Sunday morning and lazed a little. We also had a fabulous breakfast too. However, a merry band trooped off to take part in the Uppingham skills day which was a great success. The pupils were challenged and tested in a number of different ways and learnt a great deal about themselves. Meanwhile back at base we welcomed the chaplain of St Edward's School Oxford who spoke about the need to grow and learn from mistakes. The singing and the whole service was very uplifting and set us up for a tremendous day.

The Berrys kindly took an eager bunch off for a walk around historic Eyam where they took in some magnificent views and also mananged to do a spot of plate painting so they could be sure to have a gift for Mothers' Day!

Back on site there was a frenzy of energetic preparation as the pupils readied themselves to perform in the "Boarders Got Talent" evening. After a swim run by Mr Northcott and a fabulous buffet up in the Common Room we set up in the Hargreaves Hall for an evening of entertainment to rival a night of X Factor or an episode of Glee! The children sang, danced, read stories, played the piano, made jokes, played the flute and performed sketches. It was wonderful to see so many children (well over 30) up on stage and having a go. They were remarkable and it was also great to see that many parents had come to watch and support. The judges were Mrs Northcott and Mr Seddon (aka Cheryl and Simon). They were biting in their commentary but really weren't too mean and awarded first prize to Sophia D, Amelia W and Imo C. Runners up were Antoine B and the magnificent stomping Year 8 boys. I hope the pictures below give you a flavour of this splendid evening.
