Well, this Sunday the boys did laddish things that involved running around and whooping a great deal and the girls did girly things that involved arts and crafts and lots of shopping. Quite stereotypical but they had a great time doing it and they all triumphed in their various ways!
After a great Saturday night treat (the junior boys snuck off to Fellucini's and the rest of the boys and girls had burgers and chips back at the houses!) the pupils were ready for a Sunday of frenetic fun! Reverend Tony Kaunhoven delivered a thought provoking service about what it means to be "the greatest" , saying that if one serves others then that is how to achieve real greatness. Hymns were bashed out with the usual gusto and soon after the 5th year pupils went to town with their pounds (Henry S bought one of the most succulent sweets he has ever had he told me)! Lunch was hearty and everybody was on fine form as the sun beams radiated summer warmth through the school.
Activities got underway with Mr Smith and Mrs Young taking a magnificent bunch off to Stanton Moor to play various widegames such as 40:40 and much else. A fabulous ice-cream was wolfed down before the guys raced back. Another intrepid group of lads braved Sheffield on a Sunday afternoon to get to Quasar and blast each other of the face of the planet! The laser battle was frenetic but Nick T won closely followed by Holly. Clearly Nick was the laser king but Toby S and Ivan S both seemed to be lightening quick and Dominic H was a crack shot too! Parched lips were appeased with cokes and milkshakes at the local Mac Donalds!
Nick P got very grumpy when he realised he hadn't won!
The ladies chose more peaceful pursuits and the Hillcrest girls got creative whilst also packing (each other amongst much else)!
Slieve Mor were perhaps the greatest warriors of the afternoon as they braved Meadow Hall (know in even the most polite circles as Meadow Hell) to do a spot of shopping. The aim was to see who could buy the most stylish stuff at the least cost and it was certainly a closely fought contest.
So, with the boys and girls having triumphed in the various battles of their choice, they returned to school where many had a swim to ease aching legs. Mr Mace delivered a history scholarship workshop to 5A to ensure they embark on their holidays fully up to speed. Well done everyone on a magnificent Sunday and a fun finale to a long but successful term! Go home and have a break and a relax because next term is the term of balmy Sundays with BBQ's, tennis, croquet, walks, river walking, kayaking, paintball, visits to Chatsworth, widegames etc etc etc!
