Sunday 4th July - The Chatsworth Walk

Sunday 4th July - The Chatsworth Walk

This Sunday was a fitting end to a year of marvellous Sundays. The sun was shining and yet there was a breeze in the air that ensured our Chatsworth Walk was a success. Mr Franklin took some pupils to watch a cricket match this Sunday too and Jon Weller ran a wonderfully successful trip to Thornbridge where his musicians played outstandingly well and really rose to the challenge and wowed the audiences. Mr Weller said it was a "cracking" morning and that the kids should be really proud of what they did.

At the morning service, the Chaplain from Oakham School spoke about the need to follow the right people and allow the good to guide us. So it was with great eagerness that we set off on our epic journey to Chatsworth armed with maps, water and sun tan cream. It was Mr Northcott who carved the way through Bakewell, across Carlton Pastures, down into Edensor and on to Queen Mary's Bower at Chatsworth. As you can see from the pictures below, this was a tremendous event and, as always,  it was fabulous to see so many parents really getting behind the venture, bringing dogs, hampers, relatives and even some champagne I think! The bustle, good humour and fabulous chat on the walk ensured that this was a great social occassion that gave everyone a chance to enjoy each others' company at leisure - something not always possible when we all lead such busy lives. Champagne and orange juice was served with canapes below the imposing Chatsworth House and packed lunches and fine picnics were munched voraciously!

A huge WELL DONE to all the pupils, parents and staff who completed this ten mile walk. Some tired bodies returned to school but everyone agreed that it had been a wonderful voyage and well worth the exertion. The views were spectacular, the weather was perfect, the company - superb!

Back at base everyone crashed out but some of the kids still clamoured for a play in the pool so Mr Weller (despite all his hard graft at Thornbridge that day) kindly oversaw a swim. Once back in the houses the pupils rested their tired limbs and Asis M and his pals were treated to a delicious home made cake from Alice!

All good stuff and just what S. Anselm's is all about. Thanks to everyone involved but to the parents especially as so many had come from far away and entered into the swing of this with great enthusiasm. We are all looking forward to Speech Day next week (start 10.00am) and hopefully the heavens will be kind to us again as everyone opens up their hampers on Saturday afternoon!
