Weekend Report 9th May

Weekend Report 9th May

The sun smiled down on us today and all the boys and girls had a magnificent time as they took time out from the stresses and strains of the week.

On Saturday night, after a good week of hard work and after a long exeat, the boys and girls were keen to "chill out" back at their houses and watch a nice film.

However, a group of eight cricketers were not going to laze around on Sunday morning and before 8 o'clock they were on the road to the Wrekin Cricket Festival. With some fine batting from James B and Max H this marvellous bunch managed to take the trophy dispatching many very good sides along the way. Well done lads!

Meanwhile, the pupils wrote some great letters (I must admit the standard varies - something we are working on)!

Then they were treated to a thought provoking assembly by Dr Neil Hamilton, Assistant Head at Rugby School. Dr Hamilton referred to the mighty Thomas Arnold and his major innovations in education whilst he was Headmaster of Rugby and he ensured that the pupils were left in no doubt about the lessons in life learnt on the sportsfield.

Immediately after this, a huge brigade of over thirty boys and girls were transported to Brailsford Wild Park where they embarked on an epic battle armed with paint....... and plenty of it! Charlie L was described as a mean fighter but it was Will A who managed to capture the enemy flag on numerous occassions. Mrs Price managed to remain neutral during the various encounters but my thanks to her for commanding the troops!

Whilst the paintballers munched on packed lunches the rest of the crew tucked into a smashing BBQ - the first of many!

Meanwhile, a mob of young lads and ladies went dashing off to Ashford in the Water to lark about in the mud and the Wye. Some even managed to catch a fish or two under the careful guidance of Mr Berry!

Mrs Seddon knew what would make her lot tick and she raced to Ponds Forge to have a wild splash around in the whirl pools and down the slides!

The Mothers v Daughters rounders match was played in great style, with all the daughters decked out in dressing gowns and pyjamas. This must have worked as they just managed to beat their mums in a very close contest.

As the sun cast long shadows across the bottom field, the boys and girls chased footballs, played in the cricket nets and climbed the climbing frame making sure that they got the very most out of the last moments of sunshine. Well done everyone..... what a great Sunday!
