Well the first week back had raced past and so it was with feverish excitement that the boys and girls entered into the weekend. On Friday night the Hillcrest junior boarders were invited down to the Northcott's for tea, games, chats and cake. They chatted about their first week back and their great new experiences but the highlight was definitely the cake!

On Saturday the boys and girls got stuck into their various games sessions and matches with gusto under glorious sunshine. That evening the 5th year boys had their first Saturday night treat pot noodles and the girls had a cosy evening of films and games at Slieve Mor.
Everybody welcomed the Sunday lie in until 8am and the full-English breakfast was just the ticket and re-fueled everyone for what would be a cracking day of fun and frollicks. Mrs Ling's assembly taught us the value of self-belief using a mobile phone as a prop! After this, parents had a welcome cup of tea and a chance to catch up with their children - most of whom were outside in the sunshine! As ever, there was much on offer this Sunday. The 5th year girls had a wonderful time at Georgia Hinckley's party and a merry band of golfers set off early to Brailsford golf club.

Given the Charity Ball the night before, many of the fathers did well to play so steadily. It was also lovely to see everyone chatting to their fathers and mothers and not a golf club thrown in anger! The results of a very close afternoon were as follows:
4th Place: Champions from last year - Freddie and Alex Howard (35 points)
3rd Place: Mr Northcott and Ollie Rudd (Ollie did most of the hard work in this pairing) (36 points)
1st Place: Tom Barton and Charles, Richard Fitzherbert and William Attenborough
Many thanks to everybody who took part and we hope to get more mothers and daughters involved next year.

Meanwhile, the remaining forty plus boarders headed off to Carsington for the traditional first Sunday outing. Well over twenty of the boys and girls were tested to the limit as they created rafts lashing barrels together and propping their boats up with logs.

However, the best bits were bashing into the opponents' boats, hurling each other into the water and making a lot of noise!

A more peaceful group went cycling with Mr Franklin, but this was not to be a sedate peddle either - they set a record time getting around the lake in break neck speed!

These activities coupled with a walk led by Mrs Price, Mrs Mace and Mrs Callun and in the end everybody had some sweets and fizzy pop!

What a wonderful way to spend a day and a fitting start to what will be a fun packed and fast paced term with so much to do.
