Toboggan Championships 2010

                                    S. Anselm's Toboggan Championships 2010

Wednesday played host to the 3rd Annual S. Anselm’s toboggan Race. Hoards of our pupils waded through several feet of powder snow, in conditions more reminiscent of the off-piste in Verbier. This was in order to reach the schools’ former sledging field, which we were kindly allowed to use courtesy of Paul and Jo of the Red Lion in Bakewell.

Mr Berry and Mr Donaldson oversaw the preparation of a 60m long, luge style strip down the centre of the field. Contestants from all ages took part in heats of four pupils to keen to be declared ‘Le Champion’ for 2010. After a series of gripping heats the four pupils who qualified for the final, waxed down their sledges and battled it out at heart stopping speed, leaving Alex W the clear winner.

The fun continued with pupils enjoying the powder in a variety of ways in everything from the classic ‘snow war’ to ‘hot-dogging’ over the bumps and moguls on their sledges.

This years event had once in a lifetime conditions and terrific fun was had by all, as is clearly visible from the pictures and video.
