It was a glorious afternoon, almost too warm for football, when the U-10 team took to the pitch at Smallwood Manor. Once we settled, we gradually took control with Hamish and George working hard in midfield. However, any number of chances went begging and it was only on the stroke of half-time that Angus scored the vital opening goal.
The second half saw a better return for our dominance with three more goals scored (by George, Angus and Hamish). Naming the goal-scorers does scant justice to the defenders who gave them such a firm platform from which to launch their attacks. Ludo was outstanding in shutting out opposition attacks, ably assisted by Toby for one half and Alex for the other. Cian had a comfortable afternoon in goal and Henry played his part in midfield for a half until replaced by the promising Sam Watts.
Although we certainly had the better of the match, the Smallwood boys fought well throughout and contributed substantially to a game that was played in an excellent spirit. All our team played their part and can all feel that they shared in the man-of-the-match award.
