U10 v Barlborough Hall Won 6-0

U10 HOCKEY TEAM.

The first game of the season for the U10A team kicked off with a lovely warm day at Barlborough Hall.

The girls began the match as they finished it – with great team spirit and enthusiasm.
The forwards of Georgina T, Emily H and Clare T ran the entire length of the pitch succeeding in their endeavours to keep most of the play away from Barlborough. Georgia R was exceptional as CH in her ability to stop any forward play into the Barlborough D.

Unfortunately for the defenders of Lydia G, Yasmin D, Poppy S and Imogen C, there was very little action. However, in the last five minutes of the game when the opposition did come close to scoring, the girls defended the goal fiercely. It did highlight the need for more practise at hitting towards the wings rather than the middle of the pitch but nevertheless, no goals were scored.

As the game progressed, Clare T soon realised the value in ‘goal hanging’ and was able to secure five goals in fairly rapid succession by being in position for Emily and Georgina to feed the ball to her. A strategy that we will definitely be fine tuning for future games.
Georgina T’s also managed to add to the score total for S.Anselm’s taking the final score to
6-0. Her dogged determination to gain and keep control of the ball sees her as this game’s
‘Player of the Match’.

Well done girls – a great start to the season!
