U10 v Birkdale Lost by 11 runs

Birkdale 125-2 (20 overs)    S.Anselm’s 114-5 (20 overs) Harvey W 21, Fred B-B 28*

A whole hearted performance against a stronger side, saw our U10 cricket team lose narrowly to Birkdale. The result does though look a little closer than it was – S.Anselm’s were unlikely to trouble Birkdale after only scoring 24 runs from the first nine overs (at that stage still needing 102 to win from the remaining 11 overs!).

Jonah G bowled a fine spell, as did William B-B and George T was very accurate too, but the opening Birkdale batsmen struck the ball well, both straight and through the offside with drives and they tucked into anything legside with relish. We kept things reasonably tight in the field.

We lost Lewis S early, but Harvey W and Bertie S settled in well, though neither could force the necessary pace. A run out brought Jonah G to the crease and he played well but it was Fred B-B and extras that kept us in the hunt! They added 31 runs in their first 3 overs together to bring 70 needed off 7 overs down to 39 needed from 4 overs. There was an outside chance, but the returning Birkdale opening bowlers made life difficult for us and we fell just short. Well played!
