U10 v Terra Nova Won 4-3

Despite the weather and muddy pitch, this match was definitely the most exciting and enjoyable to watch so far with regards to equal skill and ability of the teams. The game started with pace which did not subside until the final whistle blew.Possession was extremely equal although S.Anslems did seem to have a lot more near misses with goal scoring in comparison with Terra Nova, once the girls had managed to clear their very able defence. Georgina T was the first to put a score on the board and fully deserved it after a hard fought battle to gain and keep possession in the D. She was ably assisted by Clare T and Emily H who were non stop in their coverage of the pitch. Emily was particularly feisty and on numerous occasions managed to drive and control the ball practically the entire length of the pitch. Georgia
was our usual dependable player in her assistance with defence and as she attacked and pushed the ball forward to the ‘front line’. The defensive players of Gabriella, Grace, Beth, Yasmin, Poppy and Imogen did very well in their positions and managed to clear the ball away from the goal on most occassions. There were a few instances of more running backwards instead of towards the ball but this was perhaps more to do with confidence than ability. The second half saw equally exciting play with Terra Nova taking their final score to three and S.Anselm’s adding an extra three to their existing goal, two courtesy of Emily and one from Clare. Well played once more girls. Your enthusiasm and dedication make it an absolute pleasure to be your coach!
