U10 v The Elms Won 9-0

The girls were very eager to play this game after last week’s match and after a good warm-up were ready to get started. Despite The Elms taking the first push back, S. Anselm’s quickly assumed control with Georgina, Emily and Clare pushing forward and quickly setting up good goal scoring opportunities. This was very much the pattern of the first half of the game although The Elms did try hard to gain possession and did get the ball near their goal only to have Georgia, Grace and Gabriella push the ball forward. By the end of the first half, SA were ahead 7-0 thanks to Georgina who scored five and Clare who scored two. In the second half, Lydia changed with Gabriella for a turn as a Back but unfortunately, as with Imogen, saw little or no action. The pace was fast and The Elm’s defence worked hard to prevent any further goals and certainly limited us in that only 2 more goals were scored by the end of the match. Gabriella returned to the game for a brief period when she sportingly played for The Elms when they became a player down. What was particularly impressive about the SA girls in this game was their dogged determination to keep possession of the ball and if they did lose it, their resolve to re-gain it. The forwards do need to try and react in their positioning on the field a little faster as they often hit the ball forward towards the D when in fact no-one was there to receive it, but apart from this the whole team played very well. A special thanks to our parents who offer great support each week to the team and also to The Elm’s parents who were extremely gracious in defeat and a pleasure to have on the sidelines.
