Player of the match: Evie D
We have come to expect rain for our matches and today was no exception. However a wet weather venue had been secured at Trent College, so we still had a game and consequently we were all delighted.
The indoor area required ‘Danish’ rounders to be played. The girls still have to bat and field, but the instead of simply getting a player out at a post, the team has to work together throwing the ball from first to second to third to fourth post, without a drop and faster than the batter can run around.
Emily H (our captain) won the toss and our team decided to field. Mimi C played as bowler, Emily H played back stop, Lily H stayed at first, Evie played at second, Livi BD played at third and Laura D was positioned at fourth post. Immy N, Imogen A and Lexi BD all played in the field, two at one side of a net and one at the other! The combination worked very well. Mimi C bowled carefully, the girls on post worked diligently to ensure the ball was passed around the post quicker than the opposition could run and the fielders tried to contribute where possible. At the end of the session The Elms had secured 21 and SA accumulated 6.
SA went onto to bat and there were some fantastic hits and 21 were achieved. Unfortunately The Elms just pipped us at the post by gaining 10 for the ball being passed around faster than our players could run. This gave SA a total of 27 with the Elms narrowly beating us with 31. Personally I think we were very unlucky and had we played a second innings, there was a good chance we would have won. The second innings was called off when a SA parent noticed the rain water was running through an electrical fuse box.
Overall, despite the three pieces of bad luck (the weather, the score and the second innings being called off) there were many positives. The Year 5 girls worked as a well-oiled team. The bowling was careful and the throwing and catching was much improved, and at least we got our second game of the season! Thank you to all the spectators who followed us to Long Eaton today and sorry to those parents waiting in the car park. Better luck to all next time!
