U10 v Westbourne, Won 6-3

POMs - Tara O’R
              Amber H

Without doubt the best match the team has played to date! This was definitely the first game that the girls have really been stretched and had to “up” their skills against a team that really gave them a run for their money.

The first half was very end to end. Westbourne had superb defenders who made getting the ball into the SA goal quite a difficult feat. Thankfully when the ball did reach the D, Tara was able to score almost without fail. The SA defenders worked well with Holly, in particular, utilising her height to block the ball well.

At half time a score of 2 – 1 meant it was anyone’s game. The girls pushed on and Tara again was able to take the score to 4 – 1. However, Westbourne did become luckier in the final quarter when they scored another 2 goals. Thankfully, SA managed to pull it out of the bag by scoring a final 2 goals to seal the match although it could have gone any way.

Lots of things did become very noticeable in the game due to the fast pace. There were far too many careless throws that went straight to Westbourne, our marking in some instances was definitely slower than the opposition who at times were running rings around us and most importantly, we are still not coming forward or finding spaces for being passed to but rather standing behind the other team somehow hoping the ball will get to us.

A great experience before the tournament on Saturday that will also challenge the U10 girls but hopefully make their game better through the experience of playing strong teams.

Thank you again to all the parents who continue to support the team! A great win girls!
