U10A v Ranby House School Lost 12 - 15

Saturday 9th May 2009

S. Anselm's 11 1/2 lost to Ranby House School 15 1/2

Players of the Match - Jessica RS and Teya S

The match against Ranby was always going to be close due to the teams being so well matched. This certainly proved to be the case, the first innings seeing the scores at 7.5 to 6 in favour of Ranby and the final score of 15.5 to 11.5 also to Ranby.

Our girls fielding, despite some fumbling, showed a definite improvement especially the teamwork and ability to think ahead. The team managed 6 run outs in total due to quick thinking and accurate throwing and catching. Teya S deserves a special mention for directing play so decisively from 2nd post and Jess RS for her confident throwing and blocking.

The batting was perhaps the weakest aspect of our game with many of the girls not picking out the ‘weak spots’ and in some cases actually hitting straight to 1st deep. Jess RS, Teya S and Ella N did very well by choosing the best areas to hit and subsequently added 5 rounders to the total. The girls really need to start being far more vocal in the field in order to pre-empt big hitters and to increase the motivation of one another.
