Today I was very pleased with our girls’ footwork. Few errors were made and this is a good basic skill. I was also impressed with the effort and enthusiasm demonstrated. Catching was also good and it was pleasing to see our team fighting for the ball.

In defence Holly D and Lexi E played as a good combination. Holly D was able to take a number of interceptions and clearly wanted to get the ball, and Lexi E worked hard at sticking with her player and cutting down the opportunities for Packwood’s shooters.

In centre court, Tilly S and Constance W were good at sticking to their player and both girls picked up loose balls and directed play forward. Imogen A too, was able to receive the centre and pass some balls forward. Mimi C played a very solid Wing Defence and she came forward to take the side line passes.

In attack, Amber H had a great game, helping the ball down court and the reason I gave her Player of the match was that she was able to reoffer herself if the channel was blocked or crowded. Tara O also played very enthusiastically as Goal Attack. Grace T was in a good position on court, but unfortunately didn’t see much play as the ball was intercepted further up court.

For the next match, there a number of things we can work on: set plays from the backline pass would help get the ball out of the danger zone. My other suggestion would be the girls trying to pass in court order: GK to GD to WD to C to WA to GA to GS and then in the net!  If everyone held there place on the court and then dashed forward when it was there turn, it would stop the court getting so crowded.

Thank you for the many spectators who came to see our game today. You really cheered the girls on and all the tips of ‘sticking with the player’ and ‘coming forward’ did help our performance.
