What a super day for the U10 netball teams! It was a privilege for both Mrs Mitchell and myself to take both the U10A and B teams to the Sheffield High School netball tournament.
The U10A team highlights of the day……..
• Overall the standard of passing and movement on court was top class and also consistent across all matches.
• The shooting and team work between Beth D (GS) and Arabella H (GA) worked really well. Also the shooting under pressure particularly in the semi final and final was really impressive.
• The defence worked very hard at times - super man to man marking from Oonagh S and Georgia H. What was particularly impressive was the ability to turn the ball round from defence into attack with good strong passing and driving onto the ball after an interception.
• Well done to Captain G-P ( Annie) and Jessica R-S for their pressure on the opposition at centre passes and continued pressure to force the opposition to make mistakes. Jessica R-S had a whole tournament as Centre and did not tire one bit - she was like a little steam engine on court.
• The Semi-final was a super match V Sheffield High School A. The girls had already beaten Sheffield High in an earlier section and had to prove themselves - of which they did. It was a very exciting game with an eventual win 4 - 0. Georgia H made some outstanding interceptions which allowed S.Anselm's to take the lead and keep possession with eventual goals.
• The Final V Wakefield was nail biting!!!!! It was extremely close. At half time S.Anselm's were losing 2 - 3 and it was all to play for. After a good half time talk the Super team were ready for action. All the girls played their hearts out and by the end of the match - the score was 3 - 3. The decision was to play a further 5 minutes and if the score was still a draw the girls had to play Golden Goal! Very exciting!! S.Anselm's had to convert centre passes to goals scored of which they did. The team had super support from the B team who were certainly on form with their cheering and the atmosphere was electric. Arabella H and Beth D kept composed and with 20 seconds to go before the end of the match Arabella scored her final goal to ensure a 5 - 3 win. The whole team produced outstanding netball and it was a pleasure to watch.
The U10B highlights of the day……….
• It was super to see the U10B team winning 2 matches in their section. Overall the U10B team had a tough section with Sheffield High A and S Anselm's A to play. Each game that the dynamic B's faced, we saw continuous improvement in quality of passes and improved spacial awareness.
• It was also great to see the B team players supporting the A team. Beth D made her debut in the A team for the tournament as Goal shooter.
• The defence ( Poppy A, Arabella S ) worked hard against tall accurate shooters and at times put so much pressure on them that they forced the opposition to take shots from far away from the post and therefore won the ball continuously from rebounds. Well done the both Arabella and Poppy for outstanding performances throughout the whole day - super interceptions on a regular basis!
• The Centre court players Mariella G, Sky U, Ella N and Arabella A certainly gained in confidence as the tournament progressed. They were dodging effectively which allowed the ball to flow more fluently down the court. We are certainly looking forward to seeing more of these players as the season moves on.
• Ella T certainly provided the parents and spectators on the sidelines with some super play. She shot with flare and accuracy particularly against Ashdell. Ella shot 2 super goals from the edge of the circle to put S.Anselm's B into the lead and eventually win the match convincingly.
• Overall the atmosphere and support amongst the A and B teams from S.Anselm's really highlighted what a talented and cohesive U10 group we have. Mrs Northcott and Mrs Mitchell were very proud of the girls for their standard of play and also the way all the players represented the school. The best match of the day was definitely the match between U10A S.Anselm's and U10B S.Anselm's. A great atmosphere with hugs after the match even for Mrs Northcott and Mrs Mitchell!
A huge thank you to the S.Anselm's teams and all the parents for their continued support and encouragement particularly in the semi's and final. It is such a pleasure to see you all on the sidelines encouraging our super girls in action - THANK YOU - A memorable day had by all! MPN
