Mylnhurst U11 10 - S. Anselm's U11 35
A tricky looking fixture against a very determined Mylnhurst side awaited the Under 11's on a very small and slippy pitch on Wednesday.
S.Anselm's started well for the first time this season and scored an excellent early try through slick handling and players running onto the ball at pace for which the home side had no answer. This was indeed the start we had been looking for and a rout looked on the cards. This wasn't quite the way the rest of the half panned out however as Mylnhurst tackled bravely and at times the S. Anselm's boys made bad decisions and started to run out of room on the very narrow pitch. When the boys were direct and looking to offload out of the contact, we looked very good but at time in the first half our rucking was slow and ponderous and we lacked the quick ball needed.
After half time, the boys upped their game and played with much more vigour, scoring a succession of quick tries. The rucking and decision making was much better and so was the rugby. Good interplay among the backs, led stylishly for the first time by Jack H was a delight to see and strong running from Hugo R was also impressive. We let slip a couple of tries in a few mad minutes, but were fully in control of the match and played some excellent rugby.
The Under 11's continue to improve with every game at the moment and the boys are really working hard and getting the rewards which is really good to see. It was difficult to pick a man of the match but I think Jack H would get my vote for leading the back line so well.
