Player of the Match: Arabella H
We welcomed Terra Nova after their long drive and managed to dodge the worst of the rain by the time the match got underway. It did leave the pitches pretty slippery and churned up, but all thanks to the groundsmen for having them playable on. Much to the spectators amusement it was only myself who went head over heels – good effort to all the girls for staying upright!
The girls adjusted well to the sticky conditions and worked hard to keep their hits clean and not hack. Despite pre-game predictions by the visiting coach the game was fairly evenly matched – although SA were the deserved winners. The girls had to battle to score with the Terra Nova goalie making some wonderful saves time after time, after great shots on target by Annie GP, Arabella H and Jess R-S. Annie did manage to find the back board twice in the first half to leave us in the comfortable, although not yet secure, position at the break. The girls all worked well as a time, graciously understanding the substitutions that needed to happen. Keeley R listened very well at the half time talk and came off the bench at half time. She then proceeded to do exactly as she was asked to do – which was to be in the right position to capitalise on a strong shot on goal by either Annie or Arabella, which was then cleared by the excellent Terra Nova goalie and then for Keeley to pop the ball into the goal on the rebound. Georgy H and Beth D remained their usual steadfast selves often under pressure from some hard and well directed hits from a particularly good Terra Nova mid-field player.
Well done to everyone involved on a very changeable weather day – showcasing the Peak District specialty of all four seasons in one day. MM
