U11 v Wellow House

U11 v Wellow House

S. Anselm's -  19  v   Wellow House -  39

The first game of an eagerly anticipated season was against a Wellow House team with the benefit of 3 games this term already behind them. This match sharpness was evident from the kick off, as Wellow dominated the 1st Half racing into a three try lead, with only heroic tackling from Paddy D and Kevin H keeping the score respectable. Occasional flashes of promise were shown by S. Anselm's, notably by Elliott W when he streaked through a startled Wellow defence to score the home team's first try.

A frank and honest assessment from the coach at half time, allied to a few tactical changes, allowed for a much better display in the second half. S. Anselm's really upped their game and started to take on the opposition forwards, allowing the backs once again to show direct running and good off-loading out of the tackle. Two more excellent tries were to follow, both at the end of excellent team moves which showed lots of encouragement for the coming season.

Overall, the boys were disappointed with their first result, but experience and match sharpness will come with time and there were signs of lots of potential. The most pleasing aspect was the fact that the boys kept at the task and never allowed their heads to drop which does them great credit.

A vote of thanks must go to all the parents who came along to support the boys. Your being here means the world to the boys - stick with us, we will get much better from here!!
