This was a classic end to end match played in beautiful sunshine in the stunning peak national park. Both sides were up for it and played their hearts out and both could have won the match in the second half. Both sides were a little rusty on grass and failed to move the ball quickly up the pitch with good hits, but the skill levels were excellent. Lydia F had a great game in defence clearing the ball well, and Georgia R-S was strong in the midfield position.
Millie C had a good combative game taking a few knocks on the way but it was her determined run that saw S. Anselm's Prep School take the lead after about 15 minutes. Witham bounced back quickly levelling the score and hat half time it was anyone’s game. Goal mouth scrambles and a packed midfield meant this was fiercely competitive and passionate, but the final score was 1-1. Player of the match was Georgina H for her captaincy (which was superb all day) but also her work rate and spectacular effort with a shot that pinged the post at about 50mph – what a goal that would have been!
A much improved performance and a great game. Thank you to Witham for making the trip – we look forward to a return match at some stage.
