The U11A team had only had 3 training sessions in preparation for this tournament due to their hockey commitments and they were ready for action!  The team arrived at Wrekin College and were told by the organisers that due to wet weather the tournament was to be played indoors - huge smiles on all the player's faces! And Mrs Northcott's!  After a good solid warm up, the team looked ready and eager to play their first match.  It was against Orme House and after the nerves settled Olivia C produced some top class work in the shooters circle and secured the lead by 6 goals for S. Anselm's.  Her shots on goal were not even touching the sides of the ring - she was on form.  The fine performance from the whole team continued into the second match V White House.  Emma S starred in this match and marked tightly.  S. Anselm's continued to pass and move into space and sent the early ball into the shooters in order for them to score. The second game saw another fine result and outstanding play from Chloe R-S and Emma H.  The third match in the programme was always going to be the tough match of the day V Old Hall.  S. Anselm's produced some excellent centre pass and backline tactical play and these were soon converted into goals.  However, S.Anselm's made a few mistakes in the closing few minutes which allowed the skilful Old Hall to take the lead.  It was an extremely competitive match and S. Anselm's learnt about coping and performing on court under pressure.   S. Anselm's went on to win the next three matches and Lucy R and Emma S saw more court play.
Francesca F, Emma H and Nancy S dominated the defending half of the court.  They marked tightly and positioned themselves well for interceptions.  Whilst in the centre court Chloe R - S and Gabriella T drove onto the ball well and positively sent the first time ball into the shooters.  Lily Strange had a super tournament, making her debut for the school and winning her first medal at S. Anselm's.  Olivia Cridland led the way on the standard of shooting at the tournament.  She shot accurately and confidently.  She is certainly one player to look out for in the future.
The final result meant that S. Anselm's finished in 2nd position to win silver medals and the whole team, Mrs Northcott and Mr Callun were extremely proud.

It really is super to work with such a dedicated team with so much potential.  However, there are still lots of areas to work on and improve on - Mrs Northcott is already looking forward to seeing all the hard work in the Spring term 2009!

Thank you to all the parents for all their encouragement at the tournament - it was lovely to see you all!
