U11A Cricket v Pownall Hall Won

Wednesday 29th April 2009

S. Anselm's    154-8  (25 overs)  beat  Pownall Hall    53 all out  (21.2 overs)  by 101 runs
On Wednesday our U11 cricket team had a pleasing first victory
against an fairly inexperienced opposition team from Pownall Hall.
Batting first, we compiled 154-8 in our 25 overs, some refreshing
strokes early on from William Woodhouse and Jack Harrison batted well
with the tail - indeed an unbeaten stand of 38 for the 9th wicket with
Charlie Hetherington was the highest for that wicket in U11 matches
since 1988. A lack of patience among some of our batsmen and some
dubious calling are areas to work on. In reply a number of bowlers
shared the wickets, John Wildgoose getting the early strikes and
Elliott Woolhouse mopping up the lower order with some legspin. Pownall
were all out for 53. As we last lost a home U11 cricket match on 5th
May 1999 and our next home game is on 9th May 2009, this victory
completes ten years unbeaten in home matches!
