Following just one practice session, the U-11's had the misfortune to play Grace Dieu in their first match. Not only are Grace Dieu normally very strong opposition at U-ll level, but this team had already played five matches this term and won them all! That is not to make an excuse because it's fair to say that this was a super Grace Dieu team, individually talented and adept at playing together. They would have beaten us in any event but the circumstances certainly didn't help.

Are there any positives to draw from the match? Fortunately, there are several. The team never gave up and battled throughout with commendable determination. Jack M-M gave a strong performance in central defence to be our man-of-the-match. There were several other encouraging aspects; Paddy D was strong on the left, the two strikers looked lively enough to cause problems for weaker opposition, Ollie R played well in goal. However, it's Ranby next, which will be another stern test and we'll need to recover quickly and lift our game for that.
