This was to be a tough test for the U11A team. During training there have been many glimpses of talent throughout the team, both with the bat and the ball. Having lost the toss we were put into the field. George M. and Ludo L. opened the bowling and managed to keep the run rate down to a reasonable level and George was able to pick up an early wicket. Grace Dieu managed to steady themselves from this point until Ludo L. brilliantly ran out the other opener with a direct hit. Our bowling continued to be tight and the fielding enthusiastic as Jonah G. and Ludo L. managed to pick up another wicket apiece. Grace Dieu managed 107-4 from their 20 overs.
Our innings did not start all that encouragingly as Jonah was judged lbw in the first over. Fred B-B. then came to the crease and between himself and George M. managed to eat into the Grace Dieu total at a rate of knots, at one point 55-1 off just 8 overs. Fred batted well but fell to a good catch for 20 runs. Ludo L. replaced him and once again batted with flair and aggression. George M. scored an excellent 33 but unfortunately got a top edge and was caught. Angus E. followed and scored a quick 6 but unfortunately missed a straight one and was bowled. Will B-B. and Ludo managed to see us over the finishing line with 3 overs to spare, Ludo scoring 25 not out and Will 6 not out.
This was a very encouraging performance from the team and I hope they will be able to build on it in the upcoming matches.
