A super opportunity for our girls to practice their skills, in not one game but two! Our first opponents were a highly organised and well drilled Mylnhurst team, who play netball over two terms and are always a strong opposition. They were off to a fine start, with us having the first centre, but missing our first shot, enabling them to regain possession of the ball and convert their first shot at goal. After a couple of minutes we were 1 – 0 down therefore. This spurred our girls into action and normal service was quickly resumed. Our passing became more accurate and stronger and our marking tighter. The teams were equally matched and the score at half time saw us just 2 – 1 ahead. After a team boost at half time, in which the girls were urged to move for the ball and not hide behind their opposition our girls began the second half firing on all cylinders. They picked up the pace, taking advantage of the fast court surface afforded by the sports hall. Emily H came into her own shooting from far and wide, converting her shots. Beth M was solid in the middle third, timing her interceptions well to win the ball, as did GK Imo C. At one stage we looked as if we might be flagging, not yet having had the opportunity to become as match fit as the coach would like and Mylnhurst took full advantage pegging a couple of goals back. But this was quickly overcome and our girls continued to take control of the game until the final whistle. The potential is there, we just need more training sessions to instill the tactics and necessary strategies to make this good team AWESOME!
