U11A v Ranby House Lost 4-1

This was only our third match of the term, a reflection of the dire weather that has engulfed us. Practice has also been limited; we had not been able to have a single practice since our match against Barlborough exactly three weeks ago (though there was half-term in the middle there too).
Ranby were a big skilful side and it soon became apparent that it was going to be an afternoon of toil with little reward. They scored their first goal in just four minutes and an avalanche could have followed. It is greatly to the credit of our boys that it didn’t happen. We battled hard and Ranby missed a number of chances. By half-time it was only 1-0.
The second half continued in similar vein with Ranby mounting a series of attacks and our team limited to a few opportunities to go forward. Ranby scored another goal early in the second half, but only towards the end did they score their final two and we slotted home our consolation. It was an afternoon for battlers and solid determination; it was great to see so many of our team play with the resolve that was needed. No-one contributed more than Alex, our man-of-the-match, who was almost too exhausted to talk when he left the pitch at the end. Another special mention has to be made of Jonah in goal, who played with real courage and made some vital saves.
