What a great way to end the season! After a quick count up on Saturday evening, I discovered this was the under 11a girls’ 42nd game of the term!! (Yes you did read it right!) That includes all of the games played in the five tournaments too, so well done girls on keeping it going for so many matches and finishing your very successful season on a real high !
After an unfortunate one goal defeat by Spratton in the plate final at the Rugby Netball Tournament just over a week ago, we were keen to take control of this game from the start. The girls had a good warm up and were thoroughly prepared for this game from the offset. Having won the toss we were quickly 1 – 0 up after successfully converting our first centre. Our set passes worked well and we were quick to regain possession of the ball from Spratton’s centre passes. At quarter time we were 7 – 2 up and firmly in control.
In the second quarter Emily H shot some super goals from far out, with the ball passing cleanly through the goal. Our defence continued to make it difficult for Spratton and our passing down the court was slick. Poppy S, Georgina T and Clare T worked very well together, to ensure the passes into the D were spot on and gave Spratton little chance to intercept the ball. By half time we were storming 14 – 4 ahead. A minor blip in the 3rd quarter saw some players hiding and not out dodging their opponent, or coming forward for the ball which affected the flow of the ball and caused us to sometimes force a pass and lose possession. Imo marked the shots brilliantly, with a tremendous lean, whilst Georgia was quick to snatch the rebounds from under the post. Teamed with Georgina’s magnificent interceptions and pure energy on the court, normal service was quickly resumed and the team re-employed the set moves, to take control of the game. Our girls kept up the fabulous play until the final whistle, winning the game easily and playing stylish, fluid netball.
Thank you to all our wonderful supporters for your encouragement and positive sideline support all season, to the Taylors for the fabulous photos, Miss Skipp for assisting me to coach the under 11s and to Uppingham for hosting us for this match.
Well done girls, it has been a long old season and a real rollercoaster ride at times, but you have all worked so hard and achieved a huge amount, enjoying real success as a team. Well played everybody I am incredibly proud of you all and you have been a real joy to coach and great fun to spend so much time with! The foundations are in place and I am sure this is only the start, with this team continuing to enjoy more success at under 12 and under 13 level! Reach for the stars dreamteamers!
