U11A v Wellow House Won 44-7

The first game of the season for the Under 11 team was away to Wellow. The ability and commitment that the boys have shown in the training sessions has ensured that expectations were high leading into the match. We kicked off the first half and quickly turned over the ball with some good rucking. From this, Ludo L. was able to score the first try within the opening seconds of the match. Physically we were a bigger, stronger and faster team than Wellow and this certainly made a difference. The first half ended with us leading 34-0 with tries from Angus E., Hamish O., George W., Ludo L., and James L (2). Changes were made to the team as Max W., George T., and Mwela M. came on.

The second half did not start quite so well as lack of concentration in defence allowed Wellow over for a try that was unconverted. This quickly woke us up as we once again dominated possession of the ball. We scored two more tries in the second half (Toby C. and Hamish O.) that were both unconverted. Man of the match was Hamish O. who played very well and earned the praise of the opposition coach. I would also like to commend a few players who made their debut for the U11 team; George W. scored a good try and performed very well at full back, Max W. came on and showed great tenacity at the break down and an eagerness to perform well, George T. who impressed me greatly with the direct and strong runs he made and Mwela M. who played his first rugby match and has proven that he will be a force to be reckoned with. Overall a good team performance for the beginning of the season.
