U11A v Westbourne Won 2-1

Snow, of course, played havoc with our start of term. However, this week it had gone and in our one games session of the term we prepared to play an 11-a-side match against Westbourne on grass. Only after the practice did we learn that it was to be 7-a-side in Astroturf. However, on arrival, 8-a-side on Astroturf was proposed and we readily agreed so that our sub could play and stay warm.
All of that meant that it was a bit of a leap into the deep end in terms of expecting a performance so it is greatly to the credit of the team that they settled swiftly, often coped surprisingly well with the surface and produced a winning start to the season. An early goal set us on our way and an even match ensued. However, when Westbourne equalised with two minutes left the draw looked inevitable. Happily, a quicksilver attack saw Matt N slip a lovely pass into the feet of Harvey W who made no mistake with an accurate finish. Harvey was our most dangerous attacking player, while at the back Will B-B emerged as a star with a series of very reliable clearances. However, all the team deserve credit for their adaptability and determination.
