The first match of the season saw us host Wellow House in a 9-a-side game. The match started in a lively fashion with us taking early possession of the ball and passing it around nicely. On an early attack, Ludo showed great determination in the box to beat the keeper and defenders to the ball to prod home for the first goal. Soon after we were 2-0 up as Ludo scored his second goal. Wellow came back into the match after this and large holes in our midfield, they counterattacked with ease. A mix up in defence allowed Wellow to claw one goal back and make the score 2-1 at half time.
The second half started brightly for us again as we managed to pass the ball accurately and purposefully. On one attack, a Wellow defender scored an own goal, increasing our advantage to 3-1. Soon after Angus E. took a shot from distance that bounced over the keeper to make it 4-1. There was just enough time for Ludo L. to claim his hat-trick as we ran out deserved 5-1 winners.
There was much to be taken from this game, both from a positive point of view but there were also areas that need improving. At times we dwelt on the ball too long, allowing the opposition to close us down and we also left too many gaps in midfield. Having said this, it was a very positive start to the season and let’s hope we can take confidence from it into the next game against The Elm’s.
