V Walton Holymoorside B WON 2 – 0
What a super afternoon of football – a real treat for Mrs Northcott! Bertie W was selected as Captain for the afternoon, of which he did a marvellous job – well done. The team were ready for action and all set to make an impression. The S. Anselm’s B team certainly put up a fight with Bertie W, Charlie S and Matthew N creating fantastic opportunities. However, once the B team found their form nothing could stop them. Lewis J held his position well as Striker and as confidence grew so did the standard of the play. Cameron D, Fred B-B were creating opportunities for shots on goal by defending the ball well and winning possession. Charlie S and Cameron D marked well and kept tight possession of the ball which was then sent into midfield with confidence. This enabled the B team to hold onto a creditable 0 – 0 Draw against the eventual Quarter finalists and winners of our section. Thanks to Jonah G who made outstanding saves in the first match and was also particularly impressive throughout the whole tournament. He certainly made his mark today for a future A team position at U11 next year and beyond.
Against Longstone Primary and Walton Holymoorside B the matches were tight and this certainly pushed the S. Anselm’s team for improved play. It was an excellent team effort throughout the matches, good tight defence and attacking play from mids and forwards. Matthew N found his form in midfield along with Fred B-B and Bertie W, as they gained in confidence as a squad, they started to enjoy the tournament and play with flare and finesse! Cameron D, Charlie S and Jonah G were outstanding in defence and managed to win the ball continuously. Lewis J was exceptional throughout the whole tournament as the team’s key Forward. He was confident with the ball and once he positioned well up into our attacking area he created accurate attacking play and shots on goal. The end result against Longstone A was 1 – 0, however S. Anselm’s did have main possession on the ball and did not manage to convert possession into goals scored. However, this was a different scenario in the final match V Walton Holymoorside B. Outstanding play particularly from Matthew N and Cameron D, they really came to life and we eventually saw lots of confident and tactical play on the pitch which was a pleasure to see. The eventual score was 2 – 0, a great penalty was scored by Bertie W and a second brilliant goal by Matthew N.
The boys were placed in 3rd place in Group F, it was a very tight group with good teams. It was a pleasure taking the U11B team today – The team improved as the tournament progressed which is what tournaments are all about. Thank you U11B for being a great team to work with. Well done on a super afternoon of football! MPN
