U11B v Foremarke Hall Won 7-4

GK- Belen & Karina, GD- Gabby N, WD- Grace F & Amelia, C- Sophia, WA- Lulu J, GA- Jess P, GS- Issy F.

This was the first netball match for the U11b’s this season and we were eager to start the term well! We began with the first centre pass and the goal followed not long after. The team were working well together and Gabby was doing a brilliant job keeping the ball out of the defending third. Both Sophia and Lulu were working well together pushing the ball up the court which assisted the shooters reaching the 4-2 lead against Foremark.

After a quick team talk the girls were back out on the court looking confident and strong. The girls really pulled together in this quarter. It was apparent the girls were really thinking about their individual positions and using the space. Belen played superbly as GK, constantly reaching for the ball and sending it back down the court. Amelia and Gabby both marked their players continuously throughout this quarter, both helping to intercept play and regain possession of the ball. Gabby also mastered her position during this match and was able to provide support to the attack whilst playing a solid defence! I was particularly impressed with Jess and Issy who worked well together in the D and were able to pass the ball successfully to each despite the extreme height of the GK. Jess was able to reach and receive any ball sent into the goal D and was looking very assertive in her play. By the end of the third quarter Sophia, Lulu, Amelia and Grace had learnt how to control the centre third and were able to distribute the ball out to the shooters.

The girls had played a brilliant first match and it was evident that they had played the better game and deserved the win. Throughout the match, individual netball skills and level of play had improved dramatically. For Karina and Belen, this was their first ever netball match and they both played exceptionally, especially considering the lack of experience they have had in this sport. This team has a lot of potential and I look forward to working with them in practice and watching them progress.

Player of the match – Jess P
