U11B v Grace Dieu U11A Lost 16 - 11

After a long coach journey and no time to spare for a warm up. It was a slow start for the girls and our luck didn’t get much better as we lost the toss and were batting first. It took a while for the girls to get into their swing but slowly our score began to creep up by accumulating half rounders. We also discovered our newest addition to the team, Mirina, was an excellent batter, getting a good clean hit off every ball. The problem we encountered was that although the girls were hitting the ball it wasn’t going into the spaces, hindering us gaining those much needed rounders. It wasn’t until the end of our batting time did the girls really begun to perform, with Ella N and Arabella A scoring some excellent whole rounders.

It seemed the team had woken up and when we switched to fielding, I was impressed with how this newly assembled team were working together and supporting one another. The girls were doing well, stopping any balls hit within the bowling area and sending it to second, preventing those half rounders. Alice wowed the team with a brilliant one handed catch and Erin was working hard on first base and successfully stumping out the opposition. Both Belen and Victoria looked alert out in the field awaiting any catches and Grace was picking up any stray balls and sending them back to bowler. Ella N had a brilliant match, with her endless energy she was covering all areas of the field and demonstrated her ability to throw a solid accurate pass a good distance! There were times when our fielders faltered and the opposition took advantage of this. Sometimes our fielders struggled to recover the ball when it was sent into the deep and were forgetting to make long barriers, which meant the ball slipped even further from their reach. There were a few too many no balls and wrong decisions made under pressure that meant Grace Dieu were able to pinch the lead.

The girls played well against a very strong A team, and considering this was a new set-up for them they were extremely encouraging towards each other and communicated well. It was a great learning experience for the younger players and revealed areas for development and a need for them to take more control and responsibility over the game. If the younger players could achieve these targets then we would have a tough little team.

Well done to all of the girls and thank you to the parents for supporting!
