U11B v Grace Dieu won 10-0

S.Anselm’s certainly put on a wonderful display of hockey throughout this mild afternoon on top field. After playing the last few matches on astro-turf, it was refreshing to see how well we play on our familiar grass pitch.
Our girls held position and rushed the goal enabling the score to escalate at a fast pace. Ella N was dynamic and scored two fabulous goals followed by Arabella H who continued to use her hard hitting shots to score another two. Arabella H and Oonagh S, our strong CH and CF, were taken off after demonstrating an impressive start to the game.
Jess R-S came on and hounded their defence continuously until the ball crossed the goal line. Arabella S also managed to assist the ball into the back of the goal to score her first of the season.
With S.Anselm’s clearly being on top throughout the first part and having scored 6 goals by half time, we decided it would make an interesting second half to move our players around in order to practice playing in unfamiliar positions. This was clearly a skill we need to work on as we tended to panic when our RB, Beth D, had to be taken off in the tournament last week.
All of the defence moved into attacking roles and our forwards moved back to attempt to adjust to the stresses that our CH, RB and LB are used to playing under.
Beth D, Annie G-P and Georgy H now became a formidable force at the front. They adapted their game well with Annie G-P scoring one and Georgy H scoring a hat-trick! Grace Dieu battled hard and it was very pleasing to see how their spirits remained positive. Our opponents began to create some good moves which challenged our girls. Sky U called out instructions clearly from the goal area which meant that we could effectively distribute the ball out of the D and up to the forwards.

You all played very well girls!
