U.11 'B' v St Peter & St Paul's Chesterfield

Result: Won  40: 12

On a gusty afternoon the cockles of the heart of parents and children alike must have been warmed by this mature display of good open rugby.

Owing to the opponents arriving without explanation with only 9 players to S.Anselms' 12, rolling substitutions had to occur. This normally results in fragmenting a team's organisation but on this occasion S.Anselms was determined to remain united and both individual skills and team play came to the fore. It was no doubt disappointing for some children and their supporters that their afternoon was truncated but we did our best and apologies offered for anyone who was unavoidably short changed!

It would be invidious to single out anyone as it was a whole-hearted team display, with the boys adapting well to the situation, moving the ball with guile and agility together with harassing and tackling effectively, as the last try epitomised. They played to instructions well and realised that harmonious team play not only produces generally better results but provides the feel good factor that represents all that is best about rugby as a team sport.

For a 'B' team they displayed excellent cohesion and sense of purpose that would seem to augur well for next year and beyond. One can only hope that the Junior House matches after the exeat are as good a spectacle. Well done all!
