This was an outstanding performance from a group of boys playing their first competitive match as a team, on another day and with a little luck a victory would have been registered. S. Anselm's had the better of the early encounters with Ben E making some barnstorming runs and Charlie H playing an intelligent match at fly half. William A made some sniping runs from the base of the scrums, rucks and mauls. All the boys tackled their hearts out against a very useful Ranby side and never gave an inch, competing in every element of the match. S.Anselm's had territorial advantage for most of the first half and came within a whisker of crossing the line on three occasions.Alex V was having a superb match covering every blade of grass and showing immense strength in contact. At half time the score was locked at nil-nil.
Ranby started the second half the better and crossed the line after ten minutes after a missed tackle, which turned out to be the decisive score. Try as they did S.Anselm's were unable to find that elusive try. This was a gutsy performance in every way and there is plenty to look forward to next year when these boys will be competing for 1st XV places.
Well done, I am immensely proud of what you achieved this afternoon.
