U12/13 V Ranby U13 C lost 14.5 - 10

Saturday 10th May 2009

Held at S.Anselm's 2.30pm start
S.Anselm's LOST 14 and half rounders to 10.

Player of the Match: Jemima Wilson - outstanding backstop and good / consistent contact when batting.

It was a fantastic setting for a solid game of rounders. However, in the first innings, S.Anselm's didn't really wake up and found it difficult to score rounders and prevent the opposition from scoring, particularly on posts and deep field. So this match report will not focus on the negative ( half time score S.Anselm's losing 6 and half rounders to 3), it will concentrate on how the team turned the game around and really put the pressure on. The team were behind by 3 and half rounders at the start of the second innings. They went in to bat and started to strike the ball well. Ellen B, Amelia H, Mairi T and Emma K were all contributing to the scoreline and Ellie, Hatty, Grace and Jemima were certainly putting the pressure on fielding. They were backing up impressively and really showed willing to keep the opposition score as low as possible. Phoebe J and Amelia H both bowled well and only with the occasional half rounder given away, S.Anselm's were really taking control of the second innings. However as the 2nd innings came to an end, Ranby scored a few quick half rounders to end the game with a win. Unfortunately S.Anselm's needed to score more rounders in the first innings and secure tight fielding, this was achieved but it was too late to ensure success. This is a huge lesson learn't for the next match. Overall though it is a pleasure to see the girls working together and communicating well when they set their minds to it - Looking forward to seeing a lot more in future matches......
