A super afternoon of hockey, with the under 12a girls really showing how productive our recent astro training has been. The stick skills were phenomenal with Poppy S in particular working hard in defence and managing to keep possession of the ball, going past several opponents before delivering a sound pass to our forwards. Georgia once again hassled the opposition to regain possession of the ball and set the forwards up in the D. Elfie CE, Amelia W, Clare T and Georgia all scored goals in this tournament and it was super to see them finishing off the through balls and confidently slotting the ball firmly past the goalie. Grace F and Lulu J also worked hard and confidently challenged the opposing forwards, before sending the ball impressively up the pitch to their, whilst Emily H timed her tackles well and Imo kicked the ball strongly.

The girls played superbly in the initial rounds to easily go through as winners of their group. Their first final against Denstone saw them attacking for the majority of the game, but Denstone's defence and goal keeper managed to prevent them from scoring. We also had a problem with feet in this game, with several of our girls thinking it was a football game and conceding free passes, from not getting their feet out of the way quick enough. The Bromsgrove game saw them playing better hockey, on a parr with the intitial rounds and the teams were equally matched. However, one slight slip in concentration enabled a Bromsgrove player to penetrate into the D, unnoticed and unmarked by our girls. By the time they had picked her up, she had passed the ball to another player, who beat Imo to score the only goal of the game. The girls battled hard to equalise, but were held at bay by the Bromsgrove defence, who went on to become overall winners of the tournament. Our girls were a credible 3rd, out of the 12 competing teams, but no medals were awarded at this tournament.

Thank you to all of our loyal supporters for their fantastic encouragement of the girls on this damp, chilly afternoon and to Mr and Mrs Taylor for assisting with our goalie equipment. thanks to Mrs Mitchell for umpiring for us. Well played girls, house matches Saturday!
