S. Anselm's 10 beat Ranby House School 8
Half Time S. Anselm's 5 1/2 Ranby House School 4
Player of the Match Nancy J
A blustery day on Top Field but at least the rain stayed away!
Ranby won the toss and decided to field, batting first is not our favourite position to be in and the girls knew they had to go all out to get as many rounders as possible. Nancy J was up first, sent a ball high into the air and was caught out - eek! The remainder of girls hit well but Ranby had 2nd post adequately covered and prevented us scoring those all important half rounders. Millie C batted brilliantly, placing the ball towards 1st deep (the golden zone!) and managed to score our only two full rounders - well done you! We did manage to score a few ½ rounders but I felt we could have risked more, especially when nearing the end of the innings.
Ranby went into bat, having one girl who was very good at hitting, this meant Nancy J had to speed up her bowling, she did this very effectively in both innings and for that reason was awarded Player of the Match. Poppy M covered 2nd post very competently, preventing ½ rounders. Ranby only scored two ½ rounders but they did manage to score 3 full rounders, this was mainly due to good batting but on one occasion they scored through our bad fielding - dropping the ball at the posts, unforgivable!
Only 1½ rounders in it at half time, the team knew they had some work to do. We batted reasonably but need to work on placing the ball, too often we hit towards 2nd post. Poppy M scored our only full rounder of the half, well done but more please, everyone!
In both innings we managed to have 5 players still in after 36 balls. Unlike Ranby who had just one player left at the end of their innings. We covered the field very well this match and made some fabulous catches - Emily G-P, Poppy M and Freya H in particular, although do remember to try and get other players out once you have made the catch.
A close match, we really need to work on scoring more full rounders, to delight our gaggle of enthusiastic supporters...
