U12A Rounders v U13/2A Grace Dieu Lost 9 - 14

Wednesday 24th June
Half time score 5 - 4

We were forced into bat first, losing the toss. It was a slow start, we batted satisfactorily but Grace Dieu's deep fielding and coverage of 2nd post prevented us scoring, eventually we managed to score some ½ rounders, slightly too late as we were only playing 27 balls. However, Poppy M and Alli H broke through the defence to score a well needed full rounder each.
Grace Dieu went into bat and we fielded very well, only one slip - keep an eye on the "live" batter, prevent them from scoring (forget about the other players!) We made a couple of great catches and got 7 players out. Grace Dieu scored 4 half rounders and 2 full rounders, a total of 4 rounders. Only one rounder in it at half time, there was everything to play for but all was not lost.
We went into bat and did not disgrace ourselves, we scored 6 half rounders then Grace Dieu upped the pressure and got the majority of us out at 1st post. Phoebe A and Fleur G were the last two players remaining and did us proud, Fleur on flying, rather batting form! Hit some amazing balls right over to the other pitches, for this she was awarded PoM - very well done. Due to the effective Grace Dieu fielding, she did only manage our only full rounder, I do not feel, reflecting her efforts.
The match turned when we fielded for the second time. As specifically mentioned at half time, even if they equalise, keep a level head and concentrate on preventing any further scores... This was not the case, we fielded badly at first and got progressively worse throughout the innings. We made some bad decisions of where to send the ball to prevent Grace Dieu scoring, we dropped a couple of catches and our "set pieces" were a disaster!
I'm not entirely sure what went wrong, possibly a culmination of not having our full strength side, playing against older girls or maybe just lack of recent practice... C'est la vie, just a shame our last match ruined what has been a fantastic season. There's always next year...
Many thanks girls and all your adoring fans! NW
