Player of the Match Nancy Smith
Firstly can I apologise for the delay in getting this report onto the website – it has certainly been busy times at S. Anselm’s! Overall the first innings against Denstone were consistent and positive, both sides scoring well. Denstone certainly showed that they had key hitters but due to sloppy fielding from S. Anselm’s at times the half rounders finished as full rounders and this was something to talk about at the half time team talk. Nancy S bowled well once again and was certainly on form with her hitting, scoring crucial rounders for the S. Anselm’s side. The area that needed addressing was certainly the standard of fielding and being focussed at all times. Lily S and Emma H usually make stumpings from backstop to 1st post and the deep fielding was certainly slow but it was just not meant to be in the first innings. The half time score was 8 1/2 rounders to SA and 10 rounders to Denstone. In the second innings, Denstone certainly pushed up their performance. They had 2 exceptional hitters of which managed to score full rounders each time they batted. S. Anselm’s tried so hard and managed to pressurise key players and gained 2 stumpings on posts and a catch. However, Denstone were looking strong and confident in bat gaining a further 11 rounders. S. Anselm’s went into bat with an awful lot of work to do. Once again, Nancy S and Emma H scoring good solid rounders, Lucy R, Emma S, Chloe R-S scoring essential half rounders and there were many more but unfortunately it was just not enough to win the game. Well done superstars for a sturdy effort – you are such a great bunch of girls to work with and you are really starting to pull together as a team, regardless of the result! Keep it up! Thank you to our parents for their encouragement at all times – your support and praise are crucial.
