U12ASquad: Poppy S, Elfie CE, Clare T, Emily H, Amelia W, Grace F, Georgia R, Imo C.
Player of the match - Imo C, for outstanding marking against a player much taller than herself.
Quarter Time Score : 3 - 2 to SA
Half Time Score : 7 - 5 to SA
Three Quarter Time : 14 - 9 to SA
A couple of the Foremarke players were ginormous and it would be fair to say that our girls did not get off to the snappiest of starts, trailing 2 - 1 at one stage. The girls reassessed their game, however, and soon sussed out that overheads would be easy pickings for the Foremarke players, so more movement on court and dodging were required. They had just started to step up their game, when the quarter time whistle went. In the second quarter Imo C had the Foremarke shooter nailed, and despite her being a whole head and shoulders taller than her, marked her tightly to take the ball off her or force it to be passed off the backline, superb stuff Imo! Georgia R also timed her interceptions superbly and worked hard to ensure we retained possession of the ball as it travelled up the court to the shooters. Shooters Emily H and Clare were on super form, with their shooting going from strength to strength throughout the game; keep up the before school (Emily) and break time (Clare) practice girls.
It took a while for us to really feel comfortable with each other on court, understandable, as we faced a tougher opposition than in our game last term. We did have a tendency to hide behind our players at times and not pass a first time ball on others, making it harder for ourselves. These are all things we can work on though and to be fair it is still very early in the term. That said, it was super to see the girls going from strength to strength, with them playing particularly well in the 2nd and 4th quarters, but shooting outstandingly in the 3rd quarter. The girls have adapted really well to Poppy playing as centre and the addition of Elfie CE and Grace F to the squad, well done all. A special mention must go to Pops, who has recovered from her fractured arm of last term impressively, demonstrating a solid determination and steely desire to lead by example on the court - great to have you back Pops!!
It was super to see so many parents and friends supporting us for this game and to be back out watching the Dreamteamers in action. Well played everybody, we are at the Foremarke U13 Tournament next week and it will provide the girls with vital tournament experience for the IAPS later in the term.
